Research Skills

A very educational and informative project I did as a senior at Muhlenberg was the data analysis of alumni gift giving back to the college. I took a marketing research class in the fall of my senior year and we had to analyze the alumni gifts by major, gender, amount of gifts given, and many other detailed categories which was very educational. Something I learned from this project and throughout that course was how much data that the college has on alumni and the gifts that they give. They can determine exactly who to target and they have the data to support why their ideal target market is the most likely to give gifts. This project gave me perspective on how companies are able to acquire that much data on customers and are very intentional about who they market to, how persistent they are in their marketing, and how they actually market to their customers to maximize their sales and penetrate the ideal markets for their products. I really learned how calculated and advanced marketing is in all industries in this day and age.
